slightly off topic...

I have a bottle of scotch that was opened probably about 6 years ago. Would it still be good? Does it have a shelf life once opened?

Its as good as the day you bought it! I recently had a bottle that had been opened since the 70s I think, it was good.

When I was in Scotland I learned that Scotch does not age once it's in the bottle. So if you had a 10 year bottle that you bought in 87, it's still a 10 year bottle. Scotch only ages when it can commune with wood and air (such as in the barrels, which are not air tight).

You don't have to worry too much about hard liquors. It will be fine unless you cooked it or something.

If your scotch goes bad, you might want to move... some thing with that high of a proof cant go bad unless there is a major problem.

When I was in Argentina over Christmas, my grandmother-in-law invited me to partake of what was in her departed husband's liquor cabinet, since she doesn't drink.

There wasn't much in there, much there was a bottle of scotch that hadn't been opened since the 80's. I bravely dove in and it was just fine.

I have had a bottle of Drambuie for 5 years and it tastes the same today as it did then,,,can't say anything about other alcoholic drinks as I pretty much stay with this or Amarula.
