How's life? / My landlord smokes cigars
« on: 05/28/2014 02:26 PM »
My landlord is renovating the apartment above us, and there's been a recognizable smell in the stairs after he's been there. So today I met him outside and asked; and yes he does smoke cigars.  :thumbsup: First other guy I've met here in Norway that does, on a regular (everyday) basis. But apparently he only smokes Cohibas.

I asked if it was OK if I brought some cigars and went up sometime when he was renovating, and he was up for that. So I think I might have to show him that the world has more cigars than Cohiba :-)

ISOM / Mold or Plume? (settled: mold)
« on: 05/25/2014 11:58 AM »
A colleague of mine just returned from Thailand with some Cuban Montecristo Edmundos and Cohiba Clubs, bought at a duty free shop. The Edmundos is either covered with mold, or plume. And I am finding it a bit difficult to tell. It does seem like mold I think, and it being from a duty free shop strengthens that belief.

But I would very much like a second opinion, what do you think?

Humidors and Storage / Recharging Heartfelt beads
« on: 05/10/2014 10:33 AM »
I'm planning to go for Heartfelt beads when I get my hands on some bigger tupperdors, and stumbled over this YouTube video on recharging them:

Looks pretty easy to maintain, any of you guys do it this way? Or are you using distilled water?

Cigar Accessories / Hygrometer salt-test; timeframe
« on: 05/03/2014 09:49 PM »
I just finished the salt test on a new cheap hygrometer from China, I have many of these but this one seemed to take a bit longer to reach the desired value:

12 hours : 72%
18 hours : 73%
36 hours : 74%

I wrapped up the test after 36 hours. Might of course be that my salt solution differed this time from my previous tests, hard to say for sure.

Would you regard this as 1% off, or would you have aborted the test earlier :?:

So Michael and I did a split on some EP Carrillo 15th Ann, in which he was a great brother! Those are the five on the right... But it seems that that wasn't quite enough for Mr. Michael, after all there was more room in the box (he must have though to himself). And he certainly made the most of it! :dancing:

There are so many great sticks here my head is spinning! He mixed some of his preferences with some of my wishlist items and out came unicorns, angels and rainbows!

Thank you brother, you're awesome! I am going to enjoy every minute of smoking these sticks, and I am saving them for when I really have time to sit down and enjoy it! Awesome, just awesome.

Trades / Splits / Trade with Nathan (nwb)
« on: 04/25/2014 12:28 PM »
Nathan contacted me some time ago wanting to know if I was interested in a trade. He would send me some cigars that he didn't think he would get around to smoke. And I would return what I though they were worth to me. Seeing as I am new to almost all American cigars this seemed like a golden opportunity to familiarize myself with them.

Well, his end arrived (by dump truck) yesterday...

Thanks Nathan! I am blown away, much appreciated brother!  :bigthumbs:
Now all I have to do is figure out what to return...  :shades:

I like to keep track of my cigar shipments, both my incoming and outgoing. Recently there have been a few of both, and I like to know what is currently traveling (and if I should start worrying).

For this I have a tiny application; Shipment Geek. It just shows me my incoming and outgoing shipments, with dates and items, and whether they have been received or not.

If there are any other geeks with the same need I am happy to make the application available.

Available on:

Update: New release! (v1.3)

Latest changes:

* Show dialog box when removing shipment and shipment item.
* Added search for shipments.
* Added menu strip and about form.
* Shipment file is selectable.
* GUI layout changes.
